Cosmetic Surgery (Face & Neck)
As the body changes, the skin of the face and neck loosens. Wrinkles often appear around the eyes and mouth. Excess skin and fat may appear under the chin and on the neck. Cosmetic surgery can reverse these changes by reducing wrinkles and sagging skin. Procedures vary in the extent and technique applied. Minor skin changes can be performed using minimal anesthesia. Dr. Kozak also performs neck lifts to tighten isolated jowls and “bands” often seen in mature neck skin.
Chemical peel treatments vary in intensity, from the use of weak fruit acids such as glycolic and alpha hydroxy acid to more potent solutions including trichloracetic acid.
The more potent treatments penetrate to deeper layers of the dermis of the skin. The depth of penetration directly determines the extent of exfoliation.
Chemical peels stimulate the growth of new skin cells in the dermis that then replace the older, drier skin cells eliminated by the peeling solution. Following treatment, new skin grows and the skin appears tighter and more uniform in color. Precancerous cells and brown spots are removed in the peeling process.
Dr. Kozak will recommend the perfect chemical peeling solution based on your skin type, needs and desired results. Chemical peels are minor procedures, and unless you’re coupling them with other treatments, they require minimal anesthesia and are done in the office setting.
Depending on the peeling solution, your face will be swollen for 2-3 days. Your skin may initially look somewhat blanched, followed by some redness and flaking; however, once fully healed you’ll look and feel fresher and smoother and enjoy a youthful, radiant complexion.
Over the past 15 years, various lasers have been introduced into facial plastic surgery. CO2 laser surgery can be used for the following:
- Birthmarks or “age spots”
- Acne scarring
- Sun damaged skin
- Improve skin texture and complexion
- Vaporize the surface layer of the skin to eliminate aged, dry skin and stimulate growth of new skin cells (similar to chemical peels)

Conscious sedation or general anesthesia is required. A gel mask is usually recommended for 3-5 days. Makeup may be worn within 8 days. Redness of the skin is present for up to 6 weeks but can easily be concealed with makeup.
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) can correct the droopiness of eyelid skin and bags under the eyes. While sagging eyelid skin makes people look chronically tired or sad, blepharoplasty eliminates this effect and restores a youthful, bright and alert appearance.
Though eyelid surgery is commonly used to treat aging skin, many people have genetic traits that require them to seek treatment as early as their 20s.
Upper eyelid surgery removes excess skin and fat. Eventually the incision will be nearly invisible, and during the short healing process, it’s nicely hidden in the upper eyelid crease.
Lower eyelid surgery usually involves an incision inside the lower eyelid which results in no visible scarring of the skin. If skin tightening is desired, this may be done in conjunction with C02 laser resurfacing or chemical peeling.
Eyelid surgeries take approximately 2-3 hours for both upper and lower eyelids and are performed under deep sedation or general anesthesia. There are no sutures to remove since a dissolving suture is placed under the skin. Most patients experience minor discomfort for 1 or 2 days. Bruising is common and usually resolves in 7-10 days.
Many insurances cover upper eyelid surgery if vision is affected. A simple eye exam can determine if you are a candidate.

Prior to a procedure, Dr. Kozak will meticulously examine the nasal contour, anatomy and function. This examination will include the upper nose (nasal bones), the middle and lower nose (nasal cartilage).
Dr. Kozak will recommend the Rhinoplasty procedure best suited for you depending on the thickness and quality of the nasal skin and internal structure of the nose.
Rhinoplasty has two different approaches. The first is endonasally (from inside the nose), and the second is performed through a small incision under the tip of the nose.
Nasal remodeling usually takes 1-3 hours and is performed under sedation anesthesia or general anesthesia. 5-7 days after the procedure tape and molded dressing is used to limit swelling. Moderate bruising may occur around the eyes, especially in cases of reshaping or repositioning of the nasal bones.
Skin Cancer Removal with Plastic Reconstruction
Dr. Kozak provides comprehensive skin cancer removal with plastic reconstruction. She is highly trained at removing all types of skin lesions, in addition to following up with the necessary plastic reconstruction.
The leading form of skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma, with the second being squamous cell carcinoma. The least common and yet most dangerous is malignant melanoma.
Basal and squamous cell cancers vary in appearance but may begin as white or pink small nodules or bumps. They can be waxy, shiny, pitted on the surface, or even rough, dry or scaly red spots. If you have a sore that hasn’t healed after 2-4 weeks, or a patch that looks like a scar, you could be dealing with a form of basal or squamous cell cancer.
When skin cancers are removed, Dr. Kozak’s skill in plastic reconstruction aids nicely. Cosmetic and plastic surgery can restore the skin back to a normal state, where it appears clear and smooth.
As the body ages eye brows often times sag giving the appearance of being tired and anxious. You can reverse this effect with brow lifts. A brow lift, gracefully corrects the sagging, lowered position of the eyebrows and returns them to their youthful position. This surgery usually takes 1-1/2 to 2 hours and is performed under heavy sedation.
